FAQ

Do I need a referral from a GP to work with you?

Luckily, you do not need referrals from any GP or Psychiatrist to work with us, that's the beauty of private practice.

What is the difference between a psychologist, psychiatrist, counsellor and a psychotherapist?

A psychologist diagnoses mental health disorders and illnesses. Whereas a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who prescribes medication.

A counsellor is a person trained to give guidance and typically deals with present issues that can be resolved on the conscious level, this is generally a short term consultation.
A psychotherapist is a practitioner who recognises and treats mental health disorders with attention to the cause of symptoms whilst intensively and extensively examines a person’s psychological history. This is a longer term, more in depth treatment.

How long does each therapy session take?

Each session is 50 minutes long, although this can extend to an hour depending on the state of the client during this time.

Can I claim medicare rebate through your services?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. Although if you have Medibank private health or AHM insurance you're eligible to claim sessions through these insurers.
